Biometric Verification Technology: It's on its Way

by David Merrefield
ABSTRACT -
Biometric technology is new and is based on identifying one individual from
another by measuring some unique feature like face, eye, voice, DNA, or
fingerprint. Right now fingerprint identification is driving this
technology due to its ease of acquiring and implementation. Biometric
verification is being used at supermarkets like Kroger and H. E. Butt Grocery
Co. as a defense against bad checks. Biometric verification is also being
used by fast-food outlets, furniture stores, casinos, check-cashing agencies,
driver's licenses, and car rental agencies. Customer acceptance of
biometric technology is much higher post September 11. Supermarkets who
use this technology are reducing write-offs for bad or counterfeit checks down
to virtually nothing.
